Gods and Monsters The South Bank Gamelan Players are joined by a group of dancers
from Java for a performance of the Ramayanadance drama, an epic
fable where good conquers evil, as DAVID KETTLE discovers
Demons, deities, talking monkeys and magical birds are set to invade the Queen Elizabeth Hall this month in the South Bank Gamelan Players’
performance of the Ramayana. It’s a spectacular
traditional Javanese dance drama, and the result of a collaboration between the SBC’s Ensemble-in-Residence and two resident Javanese artists, musician Prasadiyanto and dancer/
choreographer Sunarno Purwolelono. They’ll also be joined by a group of dancers flying in from Java specially for the event.
