Chinese circus comes to town TRADITION WITH A TWIST: The Chinese State Circus
By Kevin Bourke for manchester online
WHERE else might you find somebody balancing an entire tea party on their head and people attempting foot juggling?
That's right, The Chinese State Circus is back in town and from next week will be showing off their unique skills at The Lowry (followed by a stint a couple of weeks later at Buxton Opera House).
The Chinese State Circus is part of a tradition stretching back 2,000 years, with a hard-won and carefully-nurtured reputation for bringing the very best in performance acrobatics to audiences. Their current touring display of breathtaking skill, for instance, includes amazing feats such as chair balancing, bungee trapeze, and hoop diving.
The spectacle also features the excitement of back-flipping acrobats who balance head-to-head while spinning plates on sticks, not to mention contortionists whose escapades will bring tears to your eyes, gymnasts catapulted from springboards, breathtaking pole-jumping routines and a unicyclist who turns out to be the performer who stacks an entire tea party on his head!
