The Mission 2003
A fusion of dance to lift your spirit and stir all your senses
Stratford Circus, London
Wed 19 and Thurs 20 March, 8pm
Lilian Baylis Theatre, London
Sat 29 and Sun 30 March, 7.45pm
This current production follows on from the success of the 2001 tour and showcases new work from five leading young Black choreographers.
Bawren Tavaziva, Irven Lewis, Maria Ryan, Michael Joseph, Robert Hylton
Each piece is a fusion of styles – from the sophisticated contemporary grooves of classical dance and jazz to the urban beats of hip-hop and street dance…with spoken word, satire and humour thrown in for good measure.
The Mission 2003 will be touring 20 venues around the UK – it is envisaged that this will continue as part of an annual Black dance regional touring platform.
There is also The Mission 2003 Workshop at Lilian Baylis Theatre Tues 25th March at 6.30pm – 8pm.
The workshop offers a creative opportunity to learn new moves through some of the diverse styles of black dance, taught by internationally renowned dance artist, Jackie Guy. The workshop provides an opportunity to experience new work by the choreographers at a reduced cost. It is open to people with little or no experience aged 14 and upwards.
