Yes, it's opera, but the Director is Lucinda Childs, the well known choreographer from the US who also created the ballet sections for the work by Scottish Opera: Superb singing is let down by drab drama

EXQUISITE singing, of an almost heart-rending intensity, marked out an evening whose dreary presentation failed to provide the requisite balance.
This should be Scottish Opera at their finest, bringing a thoroughly modern edge to an opera by Christoph Gluck which was first performed in 1762 and reworked several times during his life for different markets .
Instead, the soaring voices of the three soloists are given so little dramatic support that they would do better singing in concert. Not that those responsible for the production have not made an effort, rather, that such efforts they have made have failed to find their mark. click for more
