A Downtown Dance Theater Champion Is Heading Out of Town
by CLAUDIA LA ROCCO for the New York Times

It was a poignant moment: Ms. Marshall is returning, but Ms. Edwards is not. After 10 years at the workshop (her last day was June 30), she is moving with her family to New Haven, where her husband will be a professor of clinical law at Yale University. (The two met on their first day as undergraduates there.) Ms. Edwards, who has long promoted choreographers from abroad, will become director of programming for the New Haven International Festival of Art and Ideas.

Dance Theater Workshop Names Carla Peterson Artistic Director
by DANIEL J. WAKIN for the New York Times

“We’re not twins, but somehow this sort of dance has been happening,” Ms. Peterson said. “We’re very different people, but we have very similar commitments to the really important role of artists in culture and the real necessity for institutions and organizations to put resources behind their ability to transform their ideas into action.”

Ms. Peterson, 58, indicated that she would hew to her predecessor’s direction: promoting nonlinear, movement-based works over more narrative, theatrical presentations, and striving to support not just young innovators but also choreographers in their 50’s and 60’s who continue to generate fresh ideas.
