Home sweet home
After years of working in tiny, damp studios, Siobhan Davies is finally creating her own space. The choreographer talks to Judith Mackrell in The Guardian

Siobhan Davies assesses with a bright, hopeful gaze the whirl of activity going on around her, as men clamber up walls, heft weights and balance at back-breaking angles. Unusually, however, it is someone else choreographing the moves - for Davies's current project is not a dance but a building.

Dancing high above the London streets

Wigglesworth has been working with Siobhan Davies, the UK’s leading independent contemporary dance company, for a decade now. Their curious site is threaded within the structure of a hulking Victorian school in Elephant and Castle, south London. The school’s gothicky skyline is lifted by an undulating blue roof that picks up on the patinated, attenuated dome of the nearby Imperial War Museum, a joyful response to that structure’s oddly unassured bombast.
