Knight to the rescue of Orlando arts scene
By Terry Hummel | Orlando Sentinel

There is definitely hope for Orlando's growing cultural scene. I had lunch last week with the still-sort-of-new president of United Arts of Central Florida, Margo Knight. I had heard rumors that she was a "mountain mover" and a true supporter of all art groups, not just the "Big Five" (Orlando Museum of Art, Orlando Opera, Orlando-UCF Shakespeare Festival, Orlando Philharmonic, Orlando Ballet, formerly Southern Ballet Theatre).
The rumors in this case seem to be accurate. Even after I dissed the very existence of UA (because of the apparent lack of support for grass-roots groups and seemingly high administrative costs, which eat up more of our already scarce art dollars), she very patiently and sweetly told me of new donor and funding policies and how she planned to correct the self-defeating policies of the past.
click for more
