Lapdancer strips veil off Las Vegas casinos
By Duncan Campbell for The Guardian

Las Vegas has always been famous for its dancers offering bittersweet entertainment for the late-night losers at the gaming tables. Now one dancer is making her place in history in a way not envisioned by choreographers.
For six years Andrea Hackett, 49, was a lapdancer at the Deja Vu club. Now she is attempting to unionise the Nevada city's exotic dancers and challenge the casinos.

She is no stranger to challenges. An anti-war activist in the 1960s and a union militant in the 80s, she faced prejudice in 1995 when she changed gender and George became Andrea - a tall, dark-haired woman with the laidback repartee of a nightclub comedian.

Strippers of the world unite
Sex workers have finally won the right - taken for granted by the rest of the workforce - to join a union. Clare Rudebeck for The Independent talks to table dancers at a London club and asks them how it's affected their lives.

"I love my job. Everyone's relaxed. There's no bitchiness. We all work together as a team," says 27-year-old Frances. "I was sick of being stuck in dead-end retail jobs, earning bad money. Why do that when I can come here, earn a good wage and go home happy?"

Minutes later, she is dancing on stage at Majingo's, a table-dancing club in London Docklands.

Wow, I haven't laughed this much in a while. The quote that really gets me from this article is "Everybody wants a little bit more of the pie in any industry."
:D

A handshake for the lap-dancer
by SIMON PIA for the Scotsman

On the agenda is a potato which may end up as too hot to handle. Stuck in among mandatory licensing conditions, such as age limit, external doors, signage and health and welfare of dancers, is item No 3 - "Touching".
