Sir Richard Eyre, a very successful theatre director, speaks at the Theatre 2001 Conference which has received quite a bit of publicity. He basicaly wants better productions and cheaper ticket prices ie much bigger subsidies.
One of the points that the dance people at the Conference wanted to make clear was what constituted theatre - they wanted dance included, of course. In a plenary session, Jeanette Siddall, Director of Dance UK, asked Chris Smith, the Minister for Culture etc., what he thought by and he replied that, '...it clearly went further than plays,' which all the dance folk were pleased with.
http://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/0,,2-93040,00.html
