Ever since the dawn of time, dancers from foreign shores have dazzled audiences in America. Many companies in fact take pride in displaying their contigent of European dancers, as a mark of pedigree and class. However, will this situation change as unions and the Immigration and Naturalization Service discuss the enforcement of immigration laws, which up till now has been lax as applied to artists.
Mike Salinas reports on the discussions at BackStage.com in a feature titled Performing Unions Meet With INS About Aliens

A somewhat related story:

quote:
Activist or artist? Performance artist focuses on immigration laws for gays
John Tanasychuk, South Florida Sun-Sentinel
Tim Miller's art sometimes doesn't seem like art at all. "Florida has one of the biggest gay communities in the country," he says in an interview from his home in Venice, Calif. "How can people tolerate that it's against the law to have sex? Or that we can't adopt? How can we have this vital South Florida gay scene that tolerates being totally criminalized in state law?"

More
