The management of musicians is a much more highly tuned (forgive the pun) beast than that of artists - bigger money at stake, more prestigious and better organised. They even have organisations to manage disputes which, forgive my ignorance if I am incorrect, dance does not have. This article looks at the cancellations by major musicians that has occurred post September 11:
Faint-hearts are doing us a favour

Artist agencies and maestros are being brought down to earth in the current world climate, says Norman Lebrecht [of the Telegraph]

quote:
FAR more interesting than anything that is being performed at the moment is the list of cancellations, which lengthens by the day. It is not just musicians who have joined the chicken run. Strapping great footballers, wiry cricketers, bustling Japanese businessmen - all have found compelling "family" reasons for suspending a flight plan that never took family into much consideration before.
But while the faint-hearted wait for world tension to abate, there are signs that the concert circuit has learned some tough lessons in recent weeks - and is drawing appropriate conclusions.

I would be interested to hear from people from the world of dancers' management - have there been similar issues in the dance world. Are there established bodies that specifically look after dancers' interests and contracts?
