YMCA gets OK on theater takeover

The YMCA has gotten the green light to take over operation of the Danville Center for the Performing Arts, an unfinished theater that has been plagued for years by lawsuits and controversy.

The Contra Costa County probate court approved a Mt. Diablo Region YMCA's petition Thursday, allowing it to move ahead with plans to take over and use the 300-seat theater for arts and humanities programs.

"Part of the Y's mission is to provide programs for spirit, mind and body," said Mike Erwin, the YMCA's president. "The theater and the new Alamo YMCA is the complete package.
