Eden Court costs escalate by £5.5m

Plans to redevelop the Eden Court Theatre, Inverness, will cost £5.5 million more than originally estimated, director Colin Marr has warned after a surveyor’s report showed extensive structural defects in the existing buildings.

In September 2003 the venue received preliminary funding for a £10 million refurbishment of its premises from the Scottish Arts Council National Lottery Fund in the hope of bringing West End shows to the 800-seat Highland venue.

Eden Court Theatre, Inverness wins £5m Year of Culture grant

Plans to redevelop the Eden Court Theatre, Inverness have been boosted by a £5 million grant awarded by the Scottish Executive in recognition of the role the venue will play during the 2007 Highland Year of Culture.

The announcement comes two months after director Colin Marr warned that the refurbishment, which was originally budgeted at £10 million, would cost an extra £5.5 million, due to extensive structural defects in the existing buildings.
