I am planning on taking a course this fall at S.U.N.Y Purchase in arts management. It will be about marketing the arts... <P>Although it is not a master's program, one does need a college degree in order to take the classes..they call it a "certificate" program.<P>Initially, I am taking it so that I can help a ballet performance group that my daughter dances with gain more notice, etc. <P>Eventually, I hope it will lead to other things.<P>Has anyone here ever gone this route? (Not meaning specifically this program but...)<P>P.S. Although I have not gone that route, my university has established an arts management program, and I know it is respected in town, and I suspect, given the university's reputation nation-wide, it probably is out of town. It's a graduate program.

Yep, I'm a lighting designer, and Salzberg here is also a lighting designer for dance (though I hear he sometimes does <gasp> musicals). The management part for me has sort of been something I didn't plan on learning about - it's just the nature of dance. You work for a smallish mid-size company, and you WILL do everything, eventually. Sometimes I feel like working in dance is a sort of tap dance - you just keep tapping to get attention and to get things done.
