Writes Elaine Guregian in the Akron Beacon Journal, "Amid high turnover, communication problems, financial difficulties and a prediction from its founder that the company won't last much longer, the show goes on tomorrow night as the Ohio Ballet opens its summer season at Akron's Hardesty Park."<P> <A HREF="http://www.ohio.com/aol/aolns/019179.htm" TARGET=_blank>http://www.ohio.com/aol/aolns/019179.htm</A> <P>Does anyone have more information about Ohio Ballet? I wonder how the dancers feel knowing that the company may not survive.<P>Hmm, interestingly, their website doesn't seem to be working.

This is indeed unfortunate and appears to be a characteristic byproduct of what happens when a successor to a founder is introduced without adequate groundwork to ensure continuity. Support can dry up overnight. Exhibit "A" of just how fragile these institutions are.

From the headline of Elain Guregian's review of Ohio Ballet's latest show, "Ballet does best in latest works -- Outdoor debut shows newcomers, veterans will need time to jell":<P> <A HREF="http://www.ohio.com/justgo/onstage/dance/docs/022413.htm" TARGET=_blank>http://www.ohio.com/justgo/onstage/dance/docs/022413.htm</A>

Also, there's this thread in the Ballet forum on the company's performances:

Sadly I know from some dancers in the company that there is still a lot of dissatisfaction with the way that Hughes is running things. They had no desire to return to working with him again.<P>ME Image

MEHunt, unfortunately, I think this is the way things might have to be for awhile, what with so many dance organizations having to cut back severely and quality individuals are lost to other artforms or other industries altogether. Image indeed
