Seven candidates for San Jose ballet manager emerge

Ballet San Jose Silicon Valley has identified seven potential candidates for its top management slot and hopes to fill the position by September, according to Eileen Nelson, a board member in charge of the ballet's executive search committee.

The position has been vacant since early May, when Andrew Bales stepped down as the ballet's leader. Linda Sarles, a technology marketing executive who has replaced him as the ballet's interim director, confirmed Tuesday that she will apply for the position. ``I'm really liking this,'' she said.

The other six candidates, who have not been interviewed yet, come from both the non-profit and for-profit sectors. The position's title has been changed from ``executive director'' to ``CEO'' to appeal to both groups, said Nelson, a former senior vice president of human resources with Ebay.
