What a great idea!! I wonder, though, in what order the tickets are sold - or in other words - can a prospective ticket buyer buy a particular ticket she desires, or does the software determine which tickets are sold first?
For instance, when Alicia Alonso was in San Diego I went to see her perform on two nights. I bought tickets for the first night, in what is generally considered the "perfect seats" - but for the second night I wanted to sit really close to the stage. I just wanted to sit there, even though those are not usually considered the best seats.
The particular seats I wanted were available, but the computer would not release them for sale, as the software had been programmed to sell what is generally considered to be the "best" tickets first.
I had to go down to the box office downtown and "pull strings" with people I knew, (ok I really made a scene - had a snit fit) in order to get them to sell me the tickets I wanted.
Their entire excuse was that the computer was programmed to determine which are the best seats - because the buying public is obviously thought to be too stupid to know.
I told them garbage in - garbage out.
Anyway - I hope that this type of problem will be eliminated.

L.A. theater patrons seeking discount tickets are usually told to go to Theatre LA's Web site (, where the Web Tix service bills itself as "Southern California's only on-line, half-price ticket service for theaters in Los Angeles County."

That "only" isn't accurate. Goldstar Events operates a smaller but similar service at

The Robin Howard Theatre at The Place has followed this system succesfully for a couple of years now:

Call for theatre charges to follow airlines’ lead
By Ruth Gillespie for The Stage

Theatre managers have been encouraged to adopt an “Easyjet-style” approach to ticket pricing, adjusting the cost of seats in individual price brackets according to customer demand and limits on availability in the run-up to each performance.
