Please note that there isn't a lot of time left to apply for this scheme. The deadline is 14th February.

Dance Managers Bursaries 2001/02

Dance UK is offering bursaries of up to £750 for professional development for experienced dance managers on behalf of the Arts Council of England. A total of £5,000 is available for 2001/02. The amount remaining for the final deadline is £3,400.
The deadline for applications is Valentine's day - Thursday 14 February 2002.
Who can apply
Anyone working in dance management is eligible to apply, including those working in marketing, finance as well as general managers. Priority will be given to experienced dance managers, and you should have a minimum of 3 years arts management experience.
What you can apply for
You can apply for activities such as buying time with an expert, spending time with other organisations, mentoring, joining an action learning set or a programme of training. Almost any activity that you consider will contribute to your professional development can be proposed. New ideas are welcome, but not compulsory.
Bursaries cannot contribute to the cost of fees for higher education courses but can be used to contribute towards loss of earnings while studying on an MA or Diploma course.
How to apply
Applications can be made by email, fax or post, addressed to Jeanette Siddall at Dance UK. They should be up to sides of A4 and answer the following points:
§ Where are you in your career?
§ What do you want to do, when and why?
§ How would this help you in the short and long term?
§ How might you take the knowledge you gain back into the dance sector?
§ Give a brief outline of any other training recently undertaken, or planned for the future
§ Show a brief budget highlighting your, or your company's contribution
Points to remember
§ You should have 3 years experience of working as an arts manager.
§ There is an upper limit of £750.
§ Bursaries are for professional development for you as an individual. Successful proposals are likely to explain clearly how the programme of activity would make a difference to you in your current role and to your future ambitions.
§ Bursaries do not have to be spent within a strict timeframe, so if you have plans for next year you could apply to this deadline.
§ You need to show a contribution to the costs of the programme. Managers working for funded companies will be expected to receive a contribution from company training funds as well as "in kind" contributions such as time off. There is no fixed amount, but your company should demonstrate recognition of the value of professional development. Freelance managers will be able to show their contribution as time spent training, not working.
§ If you have a board of directors, advisors or a mentor, then please provide a letter of support to show they endorse the opportunity.
§ You will be expected to provide a final report at the end of the programme.
Decisions will be made by a panel consisting of Dance UK staff and independent advisors, by Friday 8 March 2002.
Dance UK, Battersea Arts Centre, Lavender Hill, SW11 5TN; 020 7228 4990;
