"A year ago, everybody was asking what's going to happen to the Gleason when the new Miami Arts Center opens," Beach City Manager Jorge Gonzalez said. "The answer now is, some pretty good stuff."
Cirque began overtures last spring through Miami-based The Related Group, which is also partnered with Clear Channel. But neither side knew whether the Gleason, built in 1950 and renovated in '76 as a theater, could physically handle Cirque's requirements.
