The Field, a nonprofit arts org in New York, has recently launched a new website:
www.gotour.org, that is designed for independent performing artists to reserach and post information about the arts and touring in the US.
It's a free searchable database designed to help independent performing artists, arts administrators, and audiences nationwide to research and design tours. It contains:
-Listings of artist-recommended local venues, ranging from coffee houses to formal theaters, searchable by region, discipline, and seating capacity.
-Articles by artists and arts administrators on their hometown communities, places they have toured, and how they have managed their careers, plus advice from professionals on topics ranging from legal issues to the pros and cons of touring.
-Local resources recommended by artists and administrators in the community, including support services, publicity resources, teaching opportunities, and places to socialize with other artists.
-Classified listings to facilitate locating artistic collaborators, production assistance, services, goods, and other resources.
-A bulletin board for focused, issue-oriented discussions where participants share resources, brainstorm, and address issues affecting the performing arts community.
and, artists can add these kinds of resources onto the site as well.
Pass it on!
