The Company, directed by the masterly Robert Altman, was dramatized fiction, but it had the feel of a documentary that miraculously managed to capture revealing moments. What the movie conspicuously lacked was a strong dramatic story at its centre — probably because a contrived Hollywood melodrama was precisely what Altman was trying to avoid.
