Post subject:  Valentina Kozlova's International Ballet Competition

Valentina Kozlova, former principal dancer with the Bolshoi Ballet and New York City Ballet, presents the 7th annual Kozlova International Ballet Competition, rewarding excellence in both classical and modern dance, June 6-10 at Symphony Space, Broadway & 95th Street. Semi-finals have already been held in Argentina and Russia, and New York will see more Rounds, the Finals, and presentation of Awards followed by a Gala Performance featuring dancers who received medals, monetary awards, scholarships to schools around the world, and company contracts. The Gala will also feature guests Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, and an award to Arthur Mitchell, former principal with New York City Ballet and founder of Dance Theatre of Harlem, honored for his major contributions to the world of dance over the years. Over 100 dancers, ages 11 to 25, from around the globe, will dance before a remarkable jury led by Andris Liepa, and including Virginia Johnson, Charles Jude, Nina Ananiashvili, and Nikolai Tsiskaridze, and other international known dance figures. Ballet Rounds will take place Tuesday and Wednesday; Thursday is devoted to contemporary dancers and choreography; Friday are the Finals; Saturday the Awards Ceremony (6 PM) and Performance (7 PM).
