Ring in the Year of the Rooster with one of Chen's Dance Center's delightful Teahouse Performances, February 16, 7 PM, at the Chen Dance Center, 70 Mulberry Street in NYC's Chinatown. H.T. Chen & Dancers, joined by guest artist Ayaka Kamei, will perform works that include traditional, historical, and humorous dances by Chen, opening with a traditional Lantern Procession and closing with the celebratory Confetti dance. The program will consist of excerpts from choreographer H.T. Chen's Meditations of a Drunken Peacock, inspired by an 11th century poem by Su Tong Po; Hidden Voices, about Chinese immigrants recruited as strikebreakers by a factory owner in Massachusetts; and Between Heaven and Earth, inspired by the music of Grammy award winner Zhou Long and Chen Yi, finalist for the 2006 Pulitzer Prize for music.
