Following their highly successful recent NYLA season, H.T. Chen and Dancers will present two encore performances of their dance/theater work "South of Gold Mountain," a tribute to the Chinese immigrants who came to America and settled in southern states. Choreographers H.T. Chen and Dian Dong spent three years researching the subject, interviewing immigrants and descendants and collecting material that made possible this unique and insightful production. "South of Gold Mountain" is both an immigration story and a civil rights story. The Chinese settlers helped build America by working on the southern railroads, levees, and plantations, and by working as grocers. H.T. Chen and Dancers will perform, joined by children from the Chen Dance Center school. May 13 7 14 at 7 PM at the Chen Dance Center, 70 Mulberry St. (corner of Mulberry & Bayard in Chinatown). Tickets only $15; $10 for students and seniors. Reservations at 212.349.0438.
