Eryc Taylor Dance, Inc. (ETD) presents EMERGENCE on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the Rose Nagelberg Theater at Baruch College Performing Arts Center, 55 Lexington Ave, NYC, at 6pm and also at 8:30pm. EMERGENCE, an evening of dance, will feature original pieces choreographed by recipients of 2013 ETD grants for aspiring choreographers, as well as a piece by Eryc Taylor. Tickets are $25 ($15 for students and seniors) and are available at 866-811-4111 and online at www.theatermania.com. A gala reception ($100 ticket) will take place between shows and will include a meet and greet with the choreographers as well as an open wine bar.

The featured choreographers were chosen by ETD after an open application process entered by many applicants. Grant monies were used to pay expenses incurred by these choreographers in developing the pieces being presented on April 22. Lighting Design for all pieces by Traci Klainer Polimeni.

Ashley Carter is passionate about her work as a dancer, teacher and choreographer. She can be seen working alongside artists such as Ricky Martin, NeYo, Lady Sovereign, Nicki Minaj and Mila Kunis, for companies like Pilobolus, Germaul Barnes/Viewsic Expressions, Momentum Dance Company, and Balasole, and for brands such as Nike, Nokia, Ursus Vodka, Microsoft, Heineken, Yahoo, and Lush Cosmetics. Ashley is on faculty at Peridance (NYC) and has also taught at Broadway Dance Center, Steps, and other schools in the US and abroad. Ashley has choreographed and produced several full-length shows for her company DoubleTake Dance (www.DoubleTakeDanceCo.com), seen in the prestigious Summerstage festival as well as Carnival Choreographer's Ball. Additionally, she can be seen dancing on the Rachel Ray show; and directing/choreographing a benefit for Japan and the latest commercial for Fuse TV. Recent credits include choreographic commissions for the world-renowned Dancing Wheels Company and the Montclair Performing Arts program.

Gierre J Godley is a graduate of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts (MFA) and native of Little Rock, Arkansas. While in Arkansas he trained with C. Michael Tidwell and Arleen Sugano. Gierre also had the privilege to train at the Ailey School and with Deeply Rooted Dance Production in Chicago, IL. While in New York, Gierre has worked with Gus Solomons Jr, Nellie Rainwater, Malcolm Low, Troy Powell, Camille A. Brown, Nathan Trice, Kyle Abraham, Malcolm Low and Sidra Bell to name a few. He is currently a dancer with the Stefanie Nelson Dancegroup and Matthew Westerby Company as well as serve as the Co-Artistic Director of his own repertory duet company, Sobers & Godley. As Resident Choreographer, alongside Simone Sobers, for Sobers & Godley, their evening length work "The Shit We Lost in the Fire" received the 2011 Houston Fringe Festival Critics Choice Award! Recently, Gierre created PROJECT 44, an all male troupe dedicated to showcasing the beauty of male artistry throughout the arts.

Born in Puero Rico, Jesus Olivera began dancing at the age of six. By the age of thirteen, Jesus had begun studying contemporary Dance, Ballet and Jazz at a Performing Arts School. Jesus has danced with Ballets de San Juan, Ballet de Camara Madrid, and is currently dancing in New York as a freelance dancer.

Eryc Taylor Dance, Inc., is a New York City based not-for-profit corporation with a mission to advance appreciation of dance and educate the public about dance by creating and presenting original performances, conducting master classes and workshops, and making grants to aspiring choreographers. Eryc Taylor holds a BFA in Dance from the University of the Arts, Philadelphia, Pa., and an MFA in Dance from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. Taylor has studied abroad at both the London Contemporary School of Dance and the Centre de Danse du Marais in Paris. Taylor has been awarded several major scholarships, including residency at Jacob’s Pillow, and spent two years with the Cunningham Dance Foundation Repertory Understudy Group.

Taylor has performed works by Merce Cunningham, Mark Dendy, Group Motion, Paul Taylor, Milton Meyers, Sean Curran and Gus Solomons Jr. and has collaborated with artists such as Todd Yeager, Jason Levine, Scooter LaForge and Mark Beard. Taylor's choreography has been presented worldwide and he is known for producing sight specific dance installations. For three years, Taylor co-produced "Dance Martha Dance!," a summer festival in Martha’s Vineyard, which premiered his own work as well as pieces by other New York City choreographers he selected to participate. His work has also appeared at Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors, Joyce Soho, The Second Avenue Dance Theater, NYU, Dance Theater Workshop, Dance New Amsterdam’s APAP festival, Joe's Pub at The Public Theater, NYC and New York Live Arts.
