Claudia Rudolf Barrett invited to Russia Dance Open

Claudia Rudolf Barrett, founder and director of ballet tech® of ohio, was invited to the Dance Open 2011 in St. Petersburg, Russia. March 27- April 4.

World renowned Russian ballerina, Natalia Makarova, one of the greatest dancers of the 20th century is the Chairman of the jury for the St. Petersburg International Ballet Award Dance Open.

Ms. Barrett will be accompanied by three of her preprofessional students, Anna French and Stephanie and Christi Youngquist. The students will be taking classes from teachers of the Mariinsky and Vaganova schools and will dance in a "Participant's Performance."

Ms. Barrett, an icon in the dance community, is fast becoming a popular international guest and teacher. In August last year Barrett was invited to teach at the Korea 2010 International Ballet Competition in Seoul. Click on this link to read about her Korea trip.

Ms. Barrett's talented students have received scholarships and have been accepted to prestigious summer programs, schools and companies such as American Ballet Theater, School of American Ballet, Chautauqua, Nutmeg Ballet, Nutmeg Academy, Cincinnati Ballet, Quad Cities Ballet, Interlochen, Universal Dance Academy (formerly Kirov Academy), Midwest, North Carolina School of the Arts, Houston Ballet, The Washington School of Ballet, Boston Ballet, Russian Ballet Academy of Indiana, Miami City Ballet School and Dance Theater of Harlem. Her students have also been awarded medals and scholarships at Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) in New York City.

May 7, at 2 PM and 7 PM, audiences are invited to enjoy a very moving experience during the ballet tech® of ohio spring production, A La Carte! at the Keeler Theater Cincinnati Country Day High School, 6905 Given Road. Ms. Barrett's preprofessional dancers will dance with guest professional dancer Liang Fu of Cincinnati Ballet and professional dancer Sergey Pakarev. Talented students will dance Ms. Barrett's original choreography to Richard Einhorn's music in My Many Colored Days. A tap and jazz pre-show, including guest artists from Dr. Lyrica Joy Smith's REVELATION! Dance Theatre round out this diverse program. Purchase tickets by calling 513-683-6860. May 24 - 28, Ms. Barrett is hosting Master Classes conducted by world renowned artists Adairys Almeida and Joseph Michael Gatti who are currently professional dancers with Boston Ballet, former principal dancers with Cincinnati Ballet and former bto faculty.

June 13 - July 29, Ms. Barrett is offering her annual International Summer Dance Intensive program. Featuring Barrett and internationally renowned professionals; Cervilio Amador and Liang Fu from Cincinnati Ballet, Sergey Pakarev formerly of Cincinnati Ballet and Ka Ron Brown Lehman, Master Teacher and renowned choreographer.
The intensive summer program also offers classes in dance history and nutrition/injury prevention taught by a registered nurse a member of the International Association of Dance, Science and Medicine (IADMS).

June 20 - 24, Ms. Barrett is hosting Master Classes conducted by Valery Vasilievich Lantratov, Artistic Director, Russian National Ballet Foundation, who is back by popular demand.

Ms. Barrett founded her school, ballet tech ohio, in 1993. She is the recipient of the Post-Corbett 2001 Award for Individual Achievement in the Arts and she received her initial training at the College Conservatory of Music (CCM) under Oleg Sabline and David McLain. She earned her BAS and MFA from CCM under Corbett Scholarships, studying with McLain, Dame Alicia Markova, P. W. Manchester, Frederic Franklin and James Truitte as well as many guest artists. A Ford Foundation Scholarship to the School of American Ballet, the official school of the New York City Ballet, gave Barrett the opportunity to study with Alexandra Danilova, Felia Doubrovska, Andre Eglevsky, Antonina Toumkovsky and Stanley Williams. As an original dancer, soloist and Ballet Mistress of the Cincinnati Ballet Company from 1963 until 1990, Ms. Barrett worked under five artistic directors and with teachers and choreographers from major companies around the world.

Ms. Barrett consistently adheres to her mission of bringing talented, experienced dancers/instructors of world renown to ballet tech® of ohio to inspire her students. Ms. Barrett created a number of ballets for pre-professionals including My Many Colored Days to the music of Richard Einhorn played by the Lebanon Symphony Orchestra, Appalachian Spring and A Soldier's Tale with the Clermont Philharmonic Orchestra, A Stone’s Throw and Nuada (both with Celtic themes), The Conductors, a ballet about one family's escape to the North through the Underground Railroad, Thank You, Edgar! The Mask, The Fantastic Toy Shop, Peter and the Wolf and Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nacht Musik and Carmina Burana to the accompaniment of the Blue Ash Symphony Orchestra, Nutcracker Treats. Green Legs & Ham and Happily Ever After. Barrett further challenged her dancers with La Fille Mal Gardee, Coppelia and La Sylphide. Barrett's students have performed, among others, the Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, Les Syphides and Pas de Quatre.

In a unique collaboration with Cindy Matyi, Ms. Barrett created an original ballet, Spiralia, based on Matyi's popular children's book, Little Town of Spirals, the Silver Arm Band also performed.
