Chicago Tribune
Chicago's HEDWIG DANCES begins its 25th anniversary year with a June 26-28
season at New York's Joyce SoHo. The program features works all new to
New York, choreographed by New York-based Andrea Miller, Cuban-born
dancemaker Marianela Boan, and Hedwig founder/director Jan Bartoszek.
Stampede (World Premiere), a dance by Boan that reflects on surviving
obstacles and limitations imposed by society;
Dust (World Premiere), Miller's athletic duet for dancers Justin
Deschamps and Michel Rodriguez, set to "Fratres" by Arvo Part;
Night Blooming Jasmine (New York Premiere), Bartoszek's 2007 dance
described in the Chicago Tribune as "a meditative journey through the sensual
corridors of nightfall. Inspired by the flower that releases its scent only
during the dark hours, the dance emitted a quiet feel of seizing the moment."
