Les ballets C de la B returns to Southbank Centre's Queen Elizabeth Hall on 26 and
27 June to perform Ashes, the latest work from choreographer Koen Augustijnen,
creator of bâche (2005) and IMPORT EXPORT (2007).



Following an unknown tragic disaster, eight dancers and acrobats wake up to confront
and deal with their loss and pain, before finding that from the ashes come life and
reinvention. Ashes looks at how people deal with mortality and what they are
prepared to do (or not) in order to keep hold of all that they have attained.



Composer Wim Selles provides a contemporary adaptation of Handel's love duets, sung
by Flemish alto Steve Dugardin and soprano Irene Carpentier. They are accompanied
throughout by a live quintet (violin, accordion, lute, marimbas/percussion, cello).



Working closely with the company in 1991, initially as a dancer in performances
staged by Alain Platel and Hans Van den Broeck, Koen Augustijnen has been one of the
dance company's house choreographers since 1997. Founded by Platel in 1984, les
ballets C de la B were first presented in London at Southbank Centre in 1995 and
continue to provide a unique platform for young performing artists from various
disciplines and backgrounds (current examples being the guest choreographers Lisi
Estarás and Ted Stoffer).
