Dear Critic:
I know this has been an extremely busy time and ABT & NYCB are still at
Lincoln Center. Once again you are cordially invited t a very unique
program: Rebecca Stenn and Ben Munisteri: Chopped and Screwed. They are
performing this week June 11–14, 2009 at Joyce SoHo, 155 Mercer Street, NYC. The
music is by Mirah and the Spectratone International, with lighting design by
Kathy Kaufmann, and additional music by Jay Weissman and Lori Goldston.
New York City-based choreographers Ben Munisteri and Rebecca Stenn have
collaborated, with their companies, to create a program entitled Chopped and
Screwed. They will not present your typical shared evening, where each
company contributes their own work; instead Munisteri and Stenn remix the other’
s choreography to create an alchemy of utterly surprising and
unpredictable work. Their rules: Each choreographer creates a 10-minute dance. Then
the
other choreographer (who is not allowed to add any new movement
vocabulary) recomposes the original material to render something entirely new (the
way a DJ would create a remix). The choreographer can chop up and screw back
together the original dance’s casting, sequence, design, tempos, and
movement qualities (as well as the costumes, decor, music, and lights). The
process yields six different world premieres, all subtly connected.
Opening this Thursday, June 11th at 8:00 pm
This Friday, June 12th at 8:00 pm
This Saturday, June 13th at 8:00 pm
Sunday, May 14th at 8:00 pm
So Please RSVP as soon as possible. Looking forward to seeing you at “
Chopped and Screwed”.
Sincerely,
Kevin P. McAnarney
