NEW YORK INTERNATIONAL BALLET COMPETITION 2009 ANNOUNCES THIS YEAR'S THREE
PAS DE DEUX
Orientation for New York International Ballet Competition 2009 was held
Sunday June 7 in a meeting room at Fordham University/Lincoln Center, where
the participants are all housed together for the three weeks of NYIBC.
Ilona Copen, founder/executive director; Eleanor D'Antuono, artistic
director; and Richard Chen See, director, were on hand to meet and greet, and to
explain the NYIBC rules.
The most highly anticipated part of Orientation is always the announcement
of the three pas de deux selected for that year. 48 excited young
dancers from 17 countries around the world learned that they will compete with:
"RAYMONDA" pas de deux, taught and coached by CYNTHIA GREGORY
"AUREOLE" duet by Paul Taylor, taught and coached by RACHEL BERMAN
"PAQUITA" pas de deux, taught and coached by WINTHROP COREY
Beginning Round 1 and Conclusion Round I - "Raymonda"
Wednesday June 24 and Thursday June 25 at 8 PM
"Raymonda" will be danced by all couples over the two nights,
(followed by the first process of elimination)
Round II - "Aureole" and solos brought by the dancers
Friday, June 26 at 8 PM (followed by the second elimination)
Round III - "Paquita" performed by the finalists
Saturday June 27 at 8 PM
Awards Ceremony/Gala Performance, hosted by Robert Battle
Sunday June 28 at 7 PM
Announcement of the medalists and Gala Performance with
2009 participants and special guests.
All performances at the Rose Theater, 60th Street and Broadway
