ISLAND MOVING CO. CELEBRATES CONNECTIVITY WITH "PASSIONS COLLIDE" MAY 15-17;
MAY 21-23
Newport's resident ballet company, Island Moving Co., celebrates
its connections to the community with "Passions Collide," an evening of
dances about connectivity, at the Great Friends Meeting House in Newport May
15-17 and May 21-23. All shows are at 8pm.
Artistic Director Miki Ohlsen presents two premieres at
"Passions Collide." Kelly Ann Sloan, who was the winner of the Company's
2008 Choreographers Competition, has created Field Trip, a ballet
choreographed for the full company to music by composer Edgar Meyer and the
contemporary jazz group Project. Company member Michael Bolger premieres
Side by Side, a new duet for himself and Kristy Reynolds. The Company also
performs Ohlsen's Deconstructing Cole Porter and Colin Connor's Hold Fast:
The Fragile Warmth of Collisions in Free Fall.
Each performance of the series is dedicated to one of the
Company's partners in the community, including the Preservation Society of
Newport County, Friends of Ballard Park, Newport Restoration Foundation,
Newport Daily News and Newport Historical Society, whose 1699 Meeting House
is the venue for these and the Company's summer performances. At each
performance, information about the organizations and unique events or
special offers highlight these Newport institutions, each of whom have a
special partnership with Island Moving Co.
Tickets to "Passions Collide" are $23, which includes a $3
donation to the maintenance and restoration of the Great Friends Meeting
House. Tickets are available through
