Dance Events at 92Y. A reminder and a new item:
APRIL 20 - Acclaimed downtown choreographer DAVID DORFMAN is here for a
talk with DEBORAH JOWITT. She'll be interviewing him about his artistic
ideas, his approach to choreography, his career, his plans and his
influences. Video clips of his work provide context for the discussion.
Since its founding in 1985, Dorfman's company has won eight Bessie
Awards and has performed throughout North and South American and Europe.
Dorfman's latest dance is underground, inspired by the goals, mistakes,
ideas and regrets of the Weather Underground.
Mon, Apr 20, 8:15 pm, $27. Tickets at

MAY 29 - FREE dance performance celebrating the LEGACY OF ALWIN
NIKOLAIS. Nikolais performed, showed his work and spoke at the 92nd
Street Y. As part of our ongoing series of 92nd Street Y Legacy
Performances, Fridays at Noon presents Nikolais Suite, comprised of
excerpts from three Nikolais dances, Grotto, Vaudeville of the Elements
and Imago, performed by the Shenandoah Dance Ensemble. One of the most
influential choreographers of the 20th century, Nikolais was a pioneer
in the use of multimedia in dance, and his elaborate sets and costumes
put the role of the dancer in a new light.
