"Bulgare," the 31-member folk dance group from Sofia, Bulgaria, will present
"This is Bulgaria," a spectacular celebration of authentic Bulgarian dance,
music and song, in its first ever North American tour, which also includes
performances in Chicago, Boston, and Washington D.C. Choreographer Hristo
Dimitrov has created a breathtaking stage experience, adding a potent
theatricality to the authentic dances and music of his native land.

The music by acclaimed composer Prof. Milcho Vassilev is a blend of
traditional folk music and jazz, music that moves from haunting laments to explosive
dances, from tender to fiery and everything in between. Musicians are
featured on violin and gaida (a traditional Bulgarian instrument similar to
bagpipes). Vocalist is Albena Veskova, former soloist with the renowned choir
"Les Mysteres des Voix Bulgare," which has toured worldwide.

One of Bulgaria's greatest cultural ambassadors, Bulgare was created in 2002
by choreographer Dimitrov, producer Elena Anderson, and composer Prof.
Vassilev. Since its founding, the Company has appeared in over 750 performances
in Bulgaria, Israel, France, Japan, Austria, Romania, Greece, and Macedonia.

"This is Bulgaria" reveals the beauty and variety of Bulgarian dances,
performed in three sections: "This is Bulgaria;" "Bulgaria Through the
Centuries," an overview of Bulgaria, the oldest European State formed in the year
and "Albena," a frolicking celebration of Bulgarian women and folk song.

A sampling of dances:
"Oath" from Macedonia: After the Liberation in 1878, Bulgaria was separated
into two parts, and dozens of bands traversed Macedonia, waving their battle
flags and vowing to fight for a United Bulgaria;
"Dancing Competition" from Shopsko: dances from the area in the Sofia
"Hullabaloos" from North Bulgaria: the luxurious land between the Danube and
the Balkan Mountains, known for its lively fiery dances often wrapped in
"The End of the Song" from the Rhodopi Mountains: Scene of great religious
battles during the 17th century;
"The Masters" from Dobruja: Dances of the hardworking people of this
Northeast part of Bulgaria, near the Danube, the Black Sea, Razgrad, Shumen, and
"This is Bulgaria" from Thrace: the most luxuriant part of Bulgaria, with
beautiful women, accomplished men, and an abundance of food, wine and flowers.

The Company's other U.S. engagements include Chicago (April 4), Boston
(April 9), and Washington D.C. (April 12).
