Nine dance majors and minors from Mount Holyoke College embrace the stage together and create a diverse showcase of budding choreographic talent. This show will run March 25th-26th in Mount Holyoke’s Chapin Auditorium at 8pm.
The program includes new works from Brittany Maldonado, Nina Joly, Michelle Rose and Emma Elizalde, Bergin Smith, Alexis Zaccarello-Grimes and AnaLisa Potishnak. Brittany Maldonado explores duet work and the relationship that the dance has to multiple scores of music. Nina Joly allows her interest in mime to appear in a solo she created for herself. Michelle Rose and Emma Elizalde co-choreographed an uplifting piece including a twister board and pop music. Bergin Smith dances a dynamic solo she choreographed for herself. Alexis creates a collaboration between musical score, dance, and film to explore “intention.” AnaLisa takes a more classical approach, using music by Philip Glass to support the elegant and balletic quality in her modern vocabulary.
In addition, Terese Freedman’s elementary composition class will open the show each night with a group improvisational dance. In the elementary composition class the women not only explore dance composition and choreography, they learn how to utilize their bodies in spontaneous ways in relation to the music and other moving bodies. The class will practice what they have learned in the class in this opening piece.
Funding for this production has been made possible by the Mount Holyoke College Dance Department.
Reservations are recommended and may be made by calling (413) 538-2848 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
