LAURA PAWEL DANCE COMPANY THIS WEEKEND

March 20-22 - Friday & Saturday at 8 PM; Sunday at 5 PM
Baryshnikov Arts Center, 450 West 37th Street, 4th floor theater

Dancers: Stacey Berkheimer, Jim Finney, Pamela Finney, Emily Kistler, Maki
Kurokawa, Elaine Myrianthopoulos, Laura Pawel
Musicians: Barebones, Eleanor Hovda, Phil Stone, Cecilia Coleman

"Like many of the dancer friends who gather for her companionable
concerts,
chatting and easing through choreography new and old, Pawel has been
quietly
doing her own thing since the sixties."

The New Yorker, March 23, 2009

Laura Pawel and Dancers will perform their 2009 season in a space new for
the Company - the Baryshnikov Center - March 20-22. Pawel's longtime
collaborators will be on hand - both dancers and musicians. A new face this
year will be pianist/composer Cecilia Coleman who, with her trio of musicians,
will accompany the season's premiere, There Might Be Mangoes. The company
continues in an offbeat mood with a repeat of last year's Better than being
Guillotined, set to electronic music composed and performed by Phil Stone. A
collaborator since 1973, composer/pianist Eleanor Hovda will accompany her
trilogy of dances with a mystical edge: Phoenix, Griffins, and Sphinx. The
program will be completed by Brambles which, like the other dances, has
movement and dialogue that is partly improvised. Music is the bluesy sound of
Barebones, a guitar and harmonica duo.
