THE LIMON DANCE COMPANY AND AMERICAN VIRTUOSI
IN AN EVENING OF MODERN DANCE CLASSICS
Thursday & Friday, September 14 & 15, 7:30 PM
The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, University of Maryland/College Park
The celebration of the Limon Dance Company's 60th Anniversary continues with
performances September 14 & 15, at the University of Maryland in College Park.
For these performances, the Limon Dance Company is delighted to join forces
with the American Virtuosi, an ensemble of 14 musicians playing authentic
instruments under the artistic direction of Kenneth Hamrick. The program
exemplifies the unique synergy between music and dance, an experience that has become
far too rare in the world of cutting corners and meeting the bottom line.
A highlight of the evening with be Limon's 1958 masterpiece Missa Brevis,
created to Zoltan Kodaly's four-part chorus and organ composition, Missa Brevis
in Tempore Belli. For this work, Limon and American Virtuosi will collaborate
with the University of Maryland School of Music Chamber Singers.
The program will also include Limon's signature work The Moor's Pavane, set
to the music of Purcell in a new arrangement by Kenneth Hamrick, and Concerto
Six Twenty-Two by contemporary master Lar Lubovitch, set to Mozart's exquisite
Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra K. #622.
