dance northwest invites local professionals to discuss issues

Next event Saturday 9 September from 10.30am, Studio, The Lowry

Nexus Debates is an ongoing series of half day sessions, following up
on important issues for dance professionals in the region.

Dance Northwest’s main networking event Nexus has previously been so
successful in establishing topical discussion, that Debates are
scheduled to pick up where we left off.

Saturday 9 September
Speakers from Dance Northwest and the regional agencies will be
discussing some quirky new commission opportunities; plans for a large
scale dance artist conference next spring, and how to get involved with
British Dance: Edition 2008 (taking place in Liverpool).

The Debates events are your chance to have your say on issues that
will, in the long term, affect the daily working life of the
professional dance community. They are your chance to use your voice.

Please contact the DNW office on 0151 707 2446 to reserve your place.

Dance Northwest is the National Dance Agency for Lancashire, Greater
Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire. The agency runs a professional
programme for dance artists at all stages of their careers, which
facilitates and supports the creation of new work and which supports
career development. Choreographic laboratory Exploratorium is a
bi-annual, eight day residential open locally, nationally and
internationally to all dance artists with two years choreographic
experience. It is a place to create, experiment and develop, with
emphasis on exploring ideas and making new work. Three commissions are
available through Dance Northwest bi-annually, two through
Exploratorium and one through open application. These new pieces of
dance work are toured as a triple bill Xposure!.

Further artist support is offered by other elements of Dance
Northwest’s programme: X-tra is a series of professional skills
workshops offering training in marketing, company development, touring
and fundraising; Nexus, (open to regional artists), is an annual
networking and exchange event providing sharing of work and debate; Go
See Go Be, (open to regional artists), offers a series of bursaries for
artists to attend festivals and events. Dance Northwest is also
currently hosting one of the foremost programmes of African People’s
Dance Development in the country (funded by ACE and AGMA). The
initiative is providing an increase in activity and education,
professional training and performance opportunity, and supporting the
development of traditional African and Caribbean dance forms.

Dance Northwest works in partnership with Dance Initiative Greater
Manchester, Cheshire Dance, Merseyside Dance Initiative and Ludus
Dance, and has the greatest geographical impact of all the National
Dance Agencies. An event & information leaflet Dance Link, e-newsletter
Dance News and weekly e-bulletin Mini Link are also produced regularly
by Dance Northwest. The regional Directory of Dance is also hosted on
DNW’s website. Funded by Arts Council England.
