Orange County’s leading Modern dance company,
Backhausdance presents an evening of new
repertory in celebration of the recent opening of
Backhaus Contemporary Dance Center and the
company’s 4th year performing in Southern
California. Backhausdance in Concert will
premier eXit, a razor sharp and
brooding trio performed to an original score by live
percussionist Erik Leckrone and
choreographed by Jennifer Backhaus.
Backhausdance will also perform an additional new
work: Love and Other Impossibilities, along
with other repertory favorites such as American
College Dance Festival's
Kennedy Center pick Disintegration and
Dance Resource Center's Lester Horton
Award winning Sitting on
January.
Led by artistic director Jennifer Backhaus,
Backhausdance explores modern themes through
athletic yet lyrical contemporary movement. Jennifer
Backhaus draws on many traditions of music and
dance to create detailed, meticulously sculpted
dances, high-speed expressions that burn hot and
fade away as audiences thrill and delight in their
splendor. She integrates the rich sounds of world
music with a tempo driven rush of dance creating
lush layers of imagery. Her energy and stamina in
creating new works keeps her dancers and her
audiences intrigued and eager for more.
