AAADT TO WORK WITH NEW CHOREOGRAPHERS AND DANCE LEGENDS FOR ITS 2006 NEW YORK CITY
CENTER SEASON

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater returns home this month after its successful
Paris engagement at the Les étés de la danse de Paris. The Company's engagement was
extended after the first three weeks due to the overwhelming response received from
Paris audiences.

The Company will spend the month of August rehearsing two highly anticipated ballets
for the 2006 New York City Center Season (Nov. 29-Dec. 31). Tony Award-winner Twyla
Tharp's The Golden Section from Tharp's full-length ballet The Catherine Wheel will
be set on the Company, and former Ailey Company member Uri Sands, named one of Dance
Magazine's "25 To Watch," will be choreographing a new work for the Company.

The Company will also work with Carmen de Lavallade on a restaging of John Butler's
Portrait of Billie, in which she originally danced the lead role of Billie Holiday.

After this rehearsal period, the Company will continue its international tour in
Copenhagen, Denmark; Parma and Milan, Italy and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

international tour, visit www.alvinailey.org <http://www.alvinailey.org/> .

TAKE CLASS WITH MEMBERS OF ALVIN AILEY AMERICAN DANCE THEATER

Straight from AAADT's triumphant engagement in Paris, France, company members Hope
Boykin and Renee Robinson will head to The Ailey Extension this August to teach the
(beginner) Intro Horton class. Ms. Boykin will teach on Mondays and Ms. Robinson on
Wednesdays. Both classes are 7-8:15pm. On Fridays, the class will be taught by
former Ailey II member and current Ballet Hispanico member James Pierce.

Alvin Ailey used the Horton technique as the basis for much of his work, including
his masterpiece Revelations, having been greatly influenced by Lester Horton as a
teenager. Extension students will have this unique opportunity to learn this
groundbreaking technique from the acclaimed AAADT dancers who perform it nightly.

The Ailey Extension offers classes to the general public to complement Alvin Ailey's
life-long commitment to bringing dance to all people. Over 5,000 people have taken
class since the program began in April 2005.

AILEY II REHEARSES FOR AN EXCITING NEW SEASON

Ailey II began rehearsals for its upcoming 2006-2007 North American tour on July 24.
In addition to the company's U.S. engagements, the company will also travel
extensively throughout Canada in February and March.

This tour's repertory will include premieres by Jessica Lang, Abdel Salaam and
Darrell Moultrie, who previously treated Ailey II audiences to his jazzy Aspects of
a Vibe in 2001.

The company's season begins in August with its annual engagements at Paul Smith's
College in Lake Placid, NY and at the Belleayre Music Festival in Hunter, NY before
heading on a special visit to the British Virgin Islands over Labor Day weekend.
Artistic Director Sylvia Waters, Associate Artistic Director Troy Powell and four
dancers will travel to island schools and meet with government officials in a
four-day program from September 6 to 10. The invitation was extended on behalf of
the BVI Ministry of Education and Culture and Mr. Donald Ashley CEO & President of
Grishko and his wife.

THE MOST TALENTED STUDENTS FROM AROUND THE WORLD SIZZLE IN FINAL PERFORMANCES

The most talented students from around the world will perform in The Ailey Citigroup
Theater on Thursday, August 10 and Friday, August 11 as part of The Ailey School
Summer Intensive Program's annual Summer Sizzler final concert. There will be a
4:30pm and 7:30pm performance on each day.

Students will perform pieces choreographed by this year's guest choreographers
Cornelius Carter, director of the dance department at University of Alabama; Troy
Powell, a former member of AAADT and current Associate Artistic Director of Ailey
II; Thaddeus Davis, a former member of Complexions and Dance Theatre of Harlem; and
Carl Paris, a former member of AAADT and the Martha Graham Dance Company.

The Summer Intensive is structured to advance the technical skills of students in a
wide variety of techniques. Students take 12-15 technique classes weekly, including
daily classes in ballet, Horton and/or Graham-based modern and additional classes in
jazz, Dunham technique, Hip-Hop and tap.

AILEYCAMPS ACROSS THE COUNTRY CELEBRATE A SUCCESSFUL SUMMER

Ailey's Arts In Education & Community Programs summer camp initiative, AileyCamp,
will celebrate another successful year of transforming the lives of youth nationwide
this month with the final performances of several camps around the country.

"Before I came here, I didn't express myself. I was shy," says 12-year-old New York
CAS AileyCamper Velma Solomon. "When I'm on stage, I feel like a superstar."

The Berkeley/Oakland, CA AileyCampers will have their final performance on Thursday,
August 3. The Bridgeport, CT; Boston, MA; Chicago, IL; and New York AileyCampers
will perform their final pieces on Thursday, August 10. The New York CAS/AileyCamp
final performance will start at 7pm at Columbia University's Miller Theatre. Media
is invited to attend. Please respond to this e-mail to reserve a seat.
