This Autumn Festival features new works by artistic director, Jiang Qi and guest
choreographers, Edwaard Liang, a soloist with the New York City Ballet, Dai Jian,
Wan Jing, and Wang Zhi Qiang. Act I is a colorful display of traditional and
elegant Chinese dances. Act II is a new dance drama, The Impression of the Red
Chamber, choreographed by artistic director, Jiang Qi. It is based on the famous
Chinese novel, The Dream of the Red Chamber. The first piece in Act III is an
innovative performance choreographed by Dai Jian. Edwaard Liang choreographed and
performs the following piece. The final dance, Summer. Autumn. Winter. and. Spring
is choreographed by Jiang Qi; and an excerpt of which was premiered at the
International Dance Festival on July 22, 2006.
Dance China NY, resident company of the New York Chinese Cultural Center, is known
for resplendent productions filled with technical virtuosity. Dance China NY tours
the country year round performing a vast repertoire of Chinese classical, folk, and
ethnic dances at numerous concerts, festivals, celebrations, including featured
performances at Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, and local and national television
stations. Each year, the company performs at over 500 events and reaches an
audience of over 180,000 people.
