Films & Schedule

LA MOUSTACHE
2005 / 86 min / French w/English sub-titles
When a man spontaneously shaves off the title occupant of his upper lip an
apparent shift in the fabric of the universe results. Adapting his own 1986 novel,
Emmanuel Carrere -- whose books "Class Trip" and "The Adversary" -- provides a
feast of sustained tension as the man's wife and his closest friends deny that he
ever had a moustache.

Friday, July 21 6:00 & 8:00 pm
Saturday, July 22 & Sunday, July 23 3:00, 5:00, 7:00 pm

STRAYED
2003/ 95 min / French w/English sub-titles
As the German army storms through Paris in June of 1940, a woman flees the city
with her two children, heading south.A teenaged boy comes to their rescue by
leading them into the forest – their best chance for survival. Director Téchiné
(Thieves) has sexual tension coil under the surface as the widow and teenager
create their own protected world.

Monday, July 24, 6:00pmTuesday, July 25, 8:00pm

SEQUINS
2004 / 88 min / French w/English sub-titles
When seventeen-year-old Claire learns she is pregnant, she quits her supermarket
job and finds refuge as an embroidery assistant for Madame Mélikian, an
embroiderer for haute couture designers who has recently lost her son. Working
side by side, as Claire’s belly grows rounder, the threads of embroidery create a
bond between the two women.

Monday, July 24 8:00 pm
Tuesday, July 25 6:00 pm

GAMES OF LOVE AND CHANCE 2004 / 117 min / French w/English sub-titles
This film that swept the Cesar Awards, and is a captivating and sensitive portrait
of life and young romance in Paris’s ethnically diverse suburban projects. Krimo,
an Arab teenager, falls in love with the feisty blond Lydia and maneuvers his way
into the school play in which she stars.

Wednesday, July 26, 6:00 pmThursday, July 27, 8:00 pm

LEMMING
2005 / 129 min / French w/English sub-titles
Spooky, intellectually titillating and darkly funny pic is definitely the kind of
film where the less you know going in, the better. It's not so much that there are
twists that shouldn't be revealed prematurely -- although there is one such
zinger. Rather, the entire venture is an accretion of odd behavior intermingled
with level-headed behavior until something (or several somethings) has got to
give.

Wednesday, July 26, 8:00 pm Saturday, July 29, 9:30 pm

READ MY LIPS
2001 / 105 min / French w/English sub-titles
Carla, a long-time employee, loyal and hardworking, first to arrive and last to
leave, is beginning to chafe at the limitations of her career. But at 35 and with
a hearing deficiency, she is not sure how to climb out of her humdrum life. Into
her life comes Paul, a new trainee. He is 25 and completely unskilled, but Carla
covers for him when the need arises because of his other qualities - he's a thief,
fresh out of jail and very good-looking. It's a case of good meeting bad.

Friday, July 287:00pm, Soiree prior to the screening of READ MY LIPS, join us for a
Soiree on the Pool Deck of New River Landing (immediately behind Cinema
Paradiso).Tickets (which include the screening of READ MY LIPS) are $15 for members
and $20 for non-members and include Perrier, wine, beer, soft drinks and
crepes!Dress is super casual…be cool, dress cool. 8:00pm Showtime
Film also shows Sunday, July 30, 8:00 pm

RED LIGHTS
2004 / 106 min / French w/English sub-titles
Based on the novel by George Simenon, Red Lights is an edge-of-your-seat-thriller
in the tradition of Alfred Hitchcock. On his way to a family event a man has too
many drinks, quarrels with his wife, gives a lift to a stranger, and finds himself
in a mysterious maze of trouble. Strange, scary, and atmospheric, with a delicious
Claude Debussy score.

5. MASS APPEAL HELD OVER FOR TWO PERFORMANCES
Posted by: "William" timoria63@yahoo.com timoria63
Date: Wed Jul 12, 2006 7:54 am (PDT)

MASS APPEAL by Bill C. Davis

HELD OVER FOR TWO PERFORMANCES
Friday and Saturday, July 14 and 15 @ 8:00 P.M.

Where: Sol Theatre Project
1140 N. Flagler Dr.
Fort Lauderdale, Fl. 33304

Cost: $20 Fri; $25 Sat - BUY ONE, GET SECOND 1/2 OFF!

Reservations: 954-525-6555 or http://www.soltheatre.com

This updated version of Bill C. Davis's bitter-sweet, smash sensation MASS
APPEAL proves that this classic tale of friendship is timeless. The story
centers on an older, entrenched priest (Father Tim) who takes on a younger,
rebellious seminarian (Mark Rowe) who is too brash and outspoken for the
church hierarchy. In doing so, he not only teaches tact and diplomacy, but
learns the meaning of personal principles and true sacrifice. Issues such as
women's rights, sexuality in the priesthood (both kinds), honesty in the
pulpit, and spiritual progression are all forced into the forefront. Even
though the Catholic church serves as the backdrop, the play ultimately
focuses on the relationship between these two seemingly opposite men who
teach each other the meaning of courage, friendship, committment, and the
infinite varieties of love.

Featuring Jim Gibbons as Father Tim Farley and Mark Rowe as Mark Dolson
Directed by Robert Hooker
Stage Managed and Sound designed by Marc Scott
Set and Lights by Jim Gibbons and Robert Hooker

8. First Annual Summer Fun Film Series
Posted by: "William" timoria63@yahoo.com timoria63
Date: Wed Jul 12, 2006 10:52 am (PDT)

Miami International Film Festival
presented by Miami Dade College announces

First Annual Summer Fun Film Series

Series includes advance screening of Paramount’s new film, “Barnyard”
and the beloved family classic, “Wizard of Oz” on the big screen

The Miami International Film Festival (MIFF), presented by Miami Dade College
(MDC), announced today the first annual Summer Fun Film Series, presented in
association with Friends of Gusman. The series presents five films over four
nights, July 27 & 28 and August 3 & 4 at the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts
and includes a program of both classic and new films that are sure to not only
appeal to the nostalgic, but also to fans of Nickelodeon’s popular animated films.

The summer series opens July 27 with “Wizard of Oz,” allowing many people the
opportunity to see it for the first time on a big screen. Festivities include an
Oz costume dress up contest. The hugely successful family film, “Winged Migration”
screens on July 28. The series continues August 3 with a special advance screening
of “Barnyard” (from Nickelodeon Movies and Paramount), which opens nationwide
August 4. Film-goers will be able to shake it up August 4 with “Grease” and the
Elvis classic, “Clambake,” which celebrates the 50th anniversary of Elvis’
historic performance at the Gusman.

Thursday, July 27 at 7:00 PM
Wizard of Oz
Kansas girl Dorothy (Judy Garland) and her dog, Toto, are whisked by a tornado
into the magical Land of Oz in this much loved musical adaptation of L. Frank
Baum’s classic novel. Dorothy joins the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly
Lion on an adventure down the Yellow Brick Road to persuade the Wizard to help her
find her way home. See this classic film on the big screen (the first time for
many!) and come dressed up as your favorite character to win prizes!

Friday, July 28 at 7:00 PM
Winged Migration
A classic family film! “For eighty million years, birds have ruled the skies, seas
and earth. Each spring, they fly vast distances. Each fall, they fly the same
route back. This film is the result of four years following their amazing
odysseys, in the northern hemisphere and then the south, species by species,
flying over seas and continents."

Thursday, August 3 at 7:00 PM
ADVANCED SCREENING
Barnyard (from Nickelodeon Movies and Paramount)
From Steve Oedekerk and Nickelodeon Movies, two of the co-creators of “Jimmy
Neutron: Boy Genius,” and filmed entirely in CGI, comes this hilarious look at
what really happens in a barnyard when the farmer’s back is turned. “Barnyard” is
a lighthearted tale centering on Otis (voiced by Kevin James), a carefree party
cow, who enjoys singing, dancing and playing tricks on humans. Unlike his father,
Ben (voiced by Sam Elliott), the respected patriarch of the farm, and Miles, the
wise old mule (voiced by Danny Glover), Otis is unconcerned about keeping the
animals’ humanlike talents a secret. But when suddenly put in the position of
responsibility, the “udderly” irresponsible cow finds the courage to be a leader.

Grease
John Travolta solidified his position as the most versatile and magnetic screen
presence of the decade and Olivia Newton-John made her film debut in “Grease,” one
of the most successful motion pictures of all time. “Grease” was not just a
nostalgic look at a simpler decade—it is peopled with characters of universal
appeal, and is an energetic and exciting homage to the age of rock ’n roll! Put on
your leather jacket, letter sweater or poodle skirt!

Clambake
Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Elvis Presley’s historic appearance at the
Gusman that created mass hysteria and closed down Flagler Street! Elvis sizzles as
a lovelorn million-heir in this romantic rock 'n' roll romp set in Miami. Seeking
the attention of the lovely Shelley Fabares (Coach), he finds himself caught up in
a rivalry with playboy Bill Bixby (The Incredible Hulk) against a tuneful
background of comedy, romance and speedboat racing. Dress-up as Elvis or wear your
clam diggers and “do the clambake.”

Tickets are $6 for members & sponsors and $7.50 for the general public. For
