Sunday July 16, at 3 & 7 PM at The Duke on 42nd Street
Miriam Nelson, who makes her home in L.A., will appear on Tap City Sunday
July 16 at the 3 PM & 7 PM performances at The Duke, 229 West 42 Street. Still
a firecracker, the 86-year old Ms. Nelson last appeared on Broadway in
"Let's Face It," a 1941 show starring Danny Kaye. Before then, her other
Broadway shows included "Panama Hattie" (1940) and "Sing Out the News" (1938).
A major figure in L.A. dance for years, Ms. Nelson, formerly married to
dancer Gene Nelson, has been active in movies, stage, TV, and cabaret. She
choreographed the dances for the original "Breakfast at Tiffany's" movie (also
appearing in the party scene), and created the movement for Ingrid Bergman in
the film "Cactus Flower." She was also choreographer for two Academy Awards
Shows, and for the opening of Disneyland in 1955.
Ms. Nelson created the dance movement for the cabaret and theater shows of
many famous performers, including Carol Channing, Steve & Edie, Howard Keel, Ann
Miller, Donald O'Connor, and Jane Russell.
On TV, she appeared in the shows of Red Skelton, Bob Hope, and Lucille Ball.
Ms. Nelson will appear in a duet with Rusty Frank to an Errol Gardner tune.
