AILEY DANCERS TURN UP THE HEAT IN PARIS

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater began its international tour this summer on July
3 in Paris, France where they have an exclusive three-week engagement at Les étés de
la danse de Paris. The festival, which began last year, features the world's
greatest dance companies. Today in The New York Times Alan Riding says, "Ailey
dancers turn up the heat in Paris!" To read the complete review, click on the

After the July 4 performance, the Company attended an official reception hosted by
Madame Jacques Chirac, Honorary President of Les étés de la danse de Paris, at the
Elysee Palace.

In keeping with the festival's goal of giving audiences in Paris exposure to varied
works, AAADT's 18 performances will reach an audience of more than 20,000. The
various programs include the ballets Ife/My Heart, Acceptance In Surrender and Solo,
new productions of Alvin Ailey's Pas de Duke and The River, which has not been
performed in Paris since 1992. The festival will also present an evening of works
highlighting some of Mr. Ailey's memorable choreography. The engagement runs
through July 23.

Set in a specially designed 1,900 outdoor theater in the courtyard of the
magnificent 18th century Hotel de Rohan-Soubise (the home of the National Archives
of France in the center of the Marais district), Les etes de la dance de Paris has
already garnered a reputation as one of the most successful dance festivals in
Europe. The Financial Times declared the outdoor theater a "superbly grand
location."

After Paris, The Company travels to Nîmes, France for performances July 24-30.

After a rehearsal period in August, this year's international tour will continue in
Copenhagen, Denmark; Parma and Milan, Italy; Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

AAADT's international tour.

AILEY II TO PERFORM AT NAACP CONVENTION

Ailey II will perform at the 97th NAACP Convention in Washington D.C., July 15-20,
2006. The convention, entitled, Voting our Values, Valuing our Votes, will feature
a full performance by Ailey II, including Revelations. Former AAADT company member
Linda-Denise Fisher-Harrell will also perform Alvin Ailey's Cry. Long-time Ailey
board member, Bruce S. Gordon, is President and CEO of the NAACP.

Ailey II then begins rehearsals for its 2006-2007 season on July 24. The company,
whom The New York Sun called "...young, energetic, vital and talented..." will
embark on a six week tour of the U.S. and Mexico in the fall and a 10 week tour of
the U.S. and Canada in the spring. Ailey II welcomes seven new company members this
tour, two of whom were apprentices last season.

Ailey II's first tour stop will be in Southold, NY on October 14.

THE AILEY SCHOOL ATTRACTS STUDENTS WORLDWIDE FOR THE SUMMER

The most talented students from around the world are studying at The Ailey School
this summer as part of the Summer Intensive Program which runs through August 11,
2006.

The Summer Intensive is structured to advance the technical skills of students in a
wide variety of techniques. Students take 12-15 technique classes weekly, including
daily classes in ballet, Horton and/or Graham-based modern and additional classes in
jazz, Dunham technique, Hip-Hop and tap.

Students also audition for workshops taught by diverse choreographers. This year's
guest choreographers are Cornelius Carter from the University of Alabama; Troy
Powell, a former member of AAADT and current Associate Artistic Director of Ailey
II; Thaddeus Davis, a former member of Complexions and Dance Theatre of Harlem; and
Carl Paris, a former member of AAADT and the Martha Graham Dance Company. Workshops
culminate in exciting studio performances at the end of the summer.

AILEYCAMP KICKS-OFF ACROSS U.S.

Ailey's Arts in Education & Community Programs department has launched another
successful summer of AileyCamps nationwide. AileyCamp's unique six-week program for

ANA MARIE FORSYTHE, LEADING EXPERT IN LESTER HORTON TECHNIQUE, TO CONDUCT PEDAGOGY
WORKSHOP FOR TEACHERS

Ana Marie Forsythe, a distinguished member of The Ailey School faculty for over 30
years and the leading authority on Horton technique, will teach a Lester Horton
Pedagogy Workshop at The Ailey School from July 31 - August 4, 2006;10am-5pm daily.
Alvin Ailey used the Horton technique as the basis for much of his work, including
his masterpiece Revelations, after having been greatly influenced by Lester Horton
as a young boy.

The workshop will give teachers the opportunity to review the Horton vocabulary,
learn Horton studies and help understand the breadth and depth of this uniquely
American modern dance technique. Participants will also have the chance to share
experiences and knowledge with other Horton teachers.

Ms. Forsythe has devoted more than twenty years to documenting and preserving the
Horton technique. She is co-author of The Dance Technique of Lester Horton with
Marjorie Perces and Cheryl Bell, which is the only written documentation of this
innovative technique. Ms. Forsythe is also the artistic director of three videos
demonstrating the Horton method. She has been a guest teacher in more than a dozen
countries and has served as chair of The Ailey School's Horton department since
1979.

The workshop fee is $525 for the full week plus a $25 materials fee. To register,
please contact Angel Flores at 212-405-9124 or aflores@alvinailey.org. One year of
teaching experience is required to register.
