FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Come “Play the Dance!”
In the opening week of Chashama’s 2006 OASIS festival, emerging choreographer Erin Malley presents the immensely colorful “Play the Dance” on Monday, July 10th at noon, and Tuesday, July 11th at noon and 5:30pm. The venue is Chashama’s windowfront at 217 East 42nd Street (between 2nd and 3rd avenues), two blocks east of the ‘Grand Central’ stop on the 4/5/6 and 7 trains. Admission is FREE.
“Play the Dance” is ‘Twister,’ a card game, ‘Super Mario Brothers,’ a fashion show, and a call-in show all wrapped up in one brilliant dance collage. Color is the theme, and visually, this piece is unmistakable! Emcee Stacy Mayer (of the Manhattan Comedy Collective and Emerging Artists’ Theater) will be out on the street enticing audience members to try out different elements of the dance. Everyone will enjoy pushing buttons affixed to the window, choosing who they want to see dancing and how, calling up the dancers (so bring your cell phone!), and dancing along with the performers before you know it!
Erin Malley is an emerging dance and theater artist from Kalamazoo, Michigan. Prior to moving to New York two years ago, she was the Artist in Residence with Education for the Arts (in Kalamazoo, MI) for two consecutive years. She taught dance in the schools, performed regularly, and collaborating with a composer, choreographed a full-length work for seven dancers and string quartet. Erin also danced in Montpellier, France, and has recently studied Argentine Tango extensively with Metin Yazir. She received her BFA in Dance and French from Western Michigan University.
