Lost & Found
A new dance venture by Teresa Chapman



Lost & Found, a new dance venture by Teresa Chapman, premieres at Barnevelder
Theater on July 22, 2006 at 8:00pm.



Conceived by the University of Houston's newest faculty member and choreographer,
Teresa Chapman, Lost & Found moves through a series of explosive dance sequences
inspired by themes of displacement, personal loss, and the search for new
beginnings.



Dangling, bouncing, and spiraling on bungee cords suspended from the rafters, the
5-member ensemble explores new movement possibilities. This "uber-physical and
risk-taking choreography" (Nancy Wozny, http://www.houstondance.org/reviews.html)
ranges from unexpected flashes of turbulent exchanges to tender caresses. In the
end, dancers find their way to quirky bliss. The music flows from intense
electronic rhythms to the soft and elegant sounds of the Spanish guitar.
Entertaining and thought provoking, Lost & found is a haunting evocation of the
struggle to find self.



Teresa Chapman has enjoyed a successful performance career in contemporary dance,
musical theater and commercial dance. She is currently an adjunct artist with the
Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, a company member of Travesty Dance Group and Assistant
Professor of Dance at University of Houston.



This will be the first installation of Lost & Found, an evening-length contemporary
dance venture to be presented in Houston in 2007. As part of the presentation of
this work-in-progress, a feedback session with the artist and dancers will
immediately follow the performance. Come and join us for an exciting evening of
new dance!
