VON USSAR danceworks Opening Night
Thursday June 13th, 2006 at 8pm

It is with great pleasure that I
invite you to the 2006 season of VON USSAR
danceworks. We will be performing at the Joyce Soho,
for the third time, July 13th through July16th. We
will feature the premiere of 23 hours and Between
and 3 repertory pieces. Between was brought to my
dancers by my sister, Mojca Ussar, while I was on
maternity leave.

On Thursday, July 13th at 8 pm, VON
USSAR danceworks will kick off the season with an
Opening Night performance. Following the
performance will be a cocktail reception with an
opportunity to meet the performers, enjoy good
music, good wine, and, of course, good company.

We would be delighted to have you join us for this
Opening Night performance and reception.

I hope you and your friends will join us for our
2006 season – once again at the Joyce SoHo, 155
Mercer Street, with an exciting program and eleven
great dancers.

I look forward to seeing you.

Very Truly Yours,

Astrid Von Ussar

Choreographer
Astrid von Ussar’s
company -- featuring three new premieres and
repertory works.

Premiere:
23 hours (World Premiere) -
This piece, set to the music of Graeme Ravell, is
for 6 dancers portraying the nature of human
relationships in the landscape of time.

Repertory:
Decisive Moment (2005) – A
piece about personal stories; it is an exploration
of inner dialogue and emotions. This piece was
inspired by the photography of Henri Cartier-Bresson.

The Search Goes On (2004) – Originally
choreographed as a solo for Nasha Thomas- Schmitt,
this piece is now following three woman disconnected
yet united in the end.

Past/Present (2001) - Explores migration,
adaptation to a new way of life, and being a
stranger uncertain about leaving the past behind.
Jack Anderson, New York Times, describes
“Past/Present” as “a celebration of energy itself.”
Commissioned by the Houston Metropolitan Dance Company.

Also featured this season will be Between -
This powerful and athletic duet by guest
choreographer Mojca Ussar has a European
contemporary flavor. Astrid von Ussar’s sister Mojca
Ussar, who lives and works in Europe, was invited to
work with the company during Ms. von Ussar’s
maternity leave.
