Get up and Dance - in the RAD BIG Dance
Royal Academy of Dance to host day of dance as a part of the capital's Big Dance

Big Dance is a week-long celebration of dance that kicks off on Saturday 15 July and
runs until Sunday 23 July. As part of this celebration the Royal Academy of Dance
at Battersea Square plans to open their doors to its local community on Sunday 16
July and invite everyone to get involved and give dance a chance - in the RAD BIG
Dance. Whatever age, taste or ability, Londoners will be able to take part in a
full programme of FREE taster classes, run by professional dance teachers, in a
range of different dance styles - from Ballet to Bollywood. Dancer, choreographer,
celebrity and Vice President of the Academy Wayne Sleep, OBE will also be making a
special guest appearance and holding a workshop from 12.15 - 13.30pm that everyone
can take part in. Various professional performances will also be interspersed
throughout the day.

Over 100 events will be taking place throughout the capital, featuring dance of
every type and from every culture. Big Dance is a Mayor of London initiative being
organised in partnership with Arts Council England, which aims to promote dance as a
social activity and a physical activity, as well as an art form - and London as a
world city of dance. Big Dance will culminate over the weekend of 22-23 July, with
a spectacular weekend of dance in Trafalgar Square, including world record attempts.
BBC One will also broadcast a special programme, Dancing in the Street, on the
Saturday night.

There will be something for everyone at the RAD Big Dance from a parent & child
workshop to a good old fashioned Tea Dance with Wandsworth's very own Mr Wonderful.
In addition, there will be Face-Painting, Balloon Sculpting, Raffles, Competitions
and performances. To register interest for a Taster Class please send an email
containing your name, address, telephone number and email address to:
savellini@rad.org.uk. Please check our website www.rad.org.uk for an up to date
timetable of the day. For more information about events taking place across the
capital go to - www.london.gov.uk/bigdance.
