zChamberdance & The Academy of Ballet at the Cowell June 17-18

SPRING PERFORMANCES THIS WEEKEND!
===============================Join us at the Cowell Theater for the Academy of
Ballet and
Chamberdance’s annual spring demonstration and performances.

Highlights of the program include the return of “More Songs” by Artistic
Director Richard Gibson with expanded choreography. The program will
also feature George Balanchine's delightful “Who Cares?,” performed with
special permission of the Balanchine Trust and staged by Sandra Jennings,
ballet mistress at San Francisco Ballet. as well as a classical Pas de
Quatre from “Swan Lake.”

The expanded version of the evocative and introspective “More Songs,” by
Artistic Director Richard Gibson features nostalgic duets, trios and
group dances – all choreographed to selections from Felix Mendelssohn’s
“Lieder ohne Worte,” which will be performed live by pianist Donald
White. “More Songs” had its premiere last year at the Cowell Theater.

Chamberdance’s performance of George Balanchine’s carefree “Who Cares?”
-- with music by George Gershwin, arranged by Hershy Kay—puts a ballet
spin on the bygone era of exuberant Hollywood musicals. Chamberdance
will perform a selection of dances including the romantic duet to
“Embraceable You,” a scintillating woman’s solo to “Stairway to Paradise”
and the breezy “Liza” solo for a man. Our 2006 performance of “Who
Cares?” has been generously underwritten by Steven and Niko Mayer.

The performances will also feature a divertissement from “Swan Lake” for
two couples. This rigorously classical pas de quatre epitomizes the
formal grace and demanding technique for which the classical ballets of
choreographer Marius Petipa are known.

All performances are at the Cowell Theater (Fort Mason Center), Saturday,
June 17 at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, June 18 at 3:00 p.m.
