The imagination lives, loves, dreams, flies, transcends, creates, smiles....

and can surely dance !

"Do you believe in magic
in a young girl's heart ?
How the music can free her
whenever it starts"

(John Sebastian)

"But if he danced, so the men of the Academy believed, man might break some of these earthly ties and raise himself up, closer to the angels."

(Jennifer Homans)

"If a ballerina must show us something that we’ve never seen before—and I think she must...."

(Laura Jacobs)

"Earth angel."

"Dream angel."

(songs from the 50's)

"Poetry in motion."

(another song from the 50's)

Mariinsky 2011

I've been tripping, as in being unable to properly put one foot in front of the other, through the world since the day that the Festival began. The effect of such beauty has been intoxicating. Going to the theater each night was like going home -- a very special, wonderful home.

Today with Ekaterina Kondaurova firmly embedded in my mind, (I even had a dream about her several nights ago, a ballet first for me), I ventured out of my Festival dreamworld. But who really wants to ? I've been living my memories since the Festival ended and I hope to be able to continue to do so as long as possible. It wasn't like attending a Festival, it was like living it.

I went for a walk in the countryside. Today is beautifully green and alive with flowers. The beauty of this world can be almost overwhelming. If you think that a prima ballerina can move perfectly, then take a walk to your neighborhood waterfall. Two rather different things, it's true.

Yet, what in this world can be more beautiful than a woman being beautiful.

" Does Enchantment Pour Out of Every Door ? "

Yes, sometimes it seems to.

And I thought that the Festival ended over a week ago.

"To watch Ansel [Adams] in the darkroom was to watch a carefully choreographed ballet.

"Each print required more than seven minutes of continuous moves: ten seconds for the basic exposure, followed by more than seven minutes of burning and dodging, a dance-like sequence using various implements to admit or withhold light to targeted areas of the print.

" "The level of concentration necessary to execute all the motions is intense. You have to blend the moves properly, and if even one goes wrong, you have to start over....His photographic prints are a personal intensification of what was in front of the camera." "

("Ansel Adams In The National Parks", page 174)
