Global Dance Contest 2010 launchedAfter the success of the inaugural Global Dance Contest last year, Sadler's Wells have released details of the 2010 contest.
As before they are aiming to attract entries from all around the world. The winner will receive a £2,000 cash prize and an expenses paid trip to London and a chance to perform their work on the main stage at Sadler's Wells in January 2011 at Sadler's Wells Sampled, the theatre's annunal showcase of some of the best in dance from around the world..
It's simple really. All you need to do is choreograph, perform and film an original piece of dance and enter it into the competition. Any kind of dance can be entered, and it can be solo, group or whatever. All anyone has to do is film a dance piece between 30 seconds and 5 minutes long, put it up on YouTube and submit your entry. The contest is open to anyone over the age of 18 from anywhere in the world. The deadline for submitting entries is 30 June 2010.
The 2009 winner [1875] Ravel and Boléro, by Taiwanese choreographer Shu-Yi Chou was performed twice at Sadler’s Wells in January to an audience of over 3,200 people. I didn't get to see it, but it and received some rave reviews from the critics.
